It was such scenes that would eventually establish the artist's name in England and France and because of this Flatford Mill was not thought to be a painting of any great value when it was first presented in 1817. In doing so, he immortalised the early C18th Suffolk watermill which once belonged to the Constable family and which now belongs to the National Trust and is one of its most visited attractions in the United Kingdom.
